Enter your rooms and how full they are. You get a starting estimate of small, medium, large and dish boxes, plus tape and labels. These are rule-of-thumb starting points, not exact counts — adjust the per-room numbers below if your home is different.

Per-room starting numbers (small / medium / large / dish boxes): . Books and heavy items go in small boxes; bedding and light items in large ones.
Each room type has a starting number of small, medium, large and dish boxes. The calculator multiplies them by how many rooms you have and by how full your home is, then adds about 10% spare. Tape is estimated at one roll per 10 boxes and labels at two per box, one on the side and one on top, as recommended in how to label moving boxes.
